Hi Jolene;

Noel is now full grown, at 3 years and 9 months old. He's such a huge, beautiful being. Today I took him to the vet to get weighed, and he came in at 177 lbs! His coat is thicker and more beautiful than ever. So we decided we better take a few pictures before he sheds.

When we go on walks, almost every single person we pass comments how big and beautiful he is, and many want to pet him. He's very friendly, and usually indulges them for a few seconds, before it's time to get on with the walk.

He is very well loved and adored, the recipient of many many hugs, from humans. And every night, if we watch a tv show, he and his dog girlfriend Phoenix stage a play. So until they get tired, no tv.

He and Phoenix love to howl at sirens, which happen 2 or 3 times a day, since we live in downtown Santa Cruz. Luckily, they limit themselves to exactly one minute, then they promptly fall silent. During that one minute, you can hear them all up and down the street. But people have told me they like the sound. They might not like it so much if it went on longer! And this is from within the house...they are trained not to howl outside. If they hear a siren, they run inside to yell and sing.

Noel has always had naturally good manners. Even though he can reach the top of kitchen counters, he won't take things off them, even though we never taught him that. Once for a week, he tested his boundaries, and we found a few discreet tooth punctures in the tomatoes in the fruit basket, which he would have needed to stand to reach. But after he'd tried that living on the edge, he went back to his mild mannered ways.

Thank you so much for your wonderful malamutes!

Best,

Kelly & Janel   08 Sep 2012

Hi Jolene;

We love Noel! He's cute and sweet and huge. Our vet is only a couple of blocks away from us. So I frequently drop by and weigh him. The people at the vet always love to see him. And he's been growing at a crazy rate. I've kept a log of it on Facebook, every week up until 6 months. Now he's slowed down a bit, so we go in every two weeks.

For his huge size, he has some kind of silly phobias, or traits. For instance, he acts like he can't go through the dog door. Either we have to open the door for him, or else get out some food and start handing it to the other dog...then he dashes in. He also pretends he can't jump in the truck. He has jumped in it, so of course he can. But usually, he just puts his front part on the tailgate, and waits for me to boost his butt in.

He still loves his toys, especially balls. He also likes us to get him those big ropes (the size they use to tie giant boats to docks) with a knot in each end. Then over a few days, he shreads it.

He's super gentle, and he loves people, and everyone (especially Phoenix, our girl dog.) But we are still teaching him not to jump up on people. It's really cute with us, and we like it. But with strangers it's pretty over the top, so he has to either not do it, or just do it on cue.

Anyway, just wanted to update you, that Noel is doing great, and we're a very happy family of dogs and people. Thank you for such a wonderful being. (He's just transitioning from cute to simply magnificent...though we'll probably always consider him "cute.") I'll include a picture or two here...but for his full growth history with pictures, check out my Facebook album.

Best,

Kelly   October 15, 2009
